We are at a historic time for buying a home. Interests rates are at all time lows and are continuing to drop. On top of that, the United States Government is trying to stimulate an economy in recession and is offering what is essentially, free money to first time home buyers.

You do not actually have to be buying your first home to qualify for this tax credit either. If you have not purchased a home within the past three years, you will qualify for this credit. Don't wait too long though, the credit will not be around forever, you will only have through the end of this year to qualify for it.

Finally, if you do purchase a property in 2009 after you have filed your taxes, you will still be eligible for the credit this year, by filing an ammended return with the IRS. Consult your accountant for full details or you can find out more at the National Association of Home Builder website.
